Construction workers found a significant crack in the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge that could keep the span closed beyond Labor Day weekend.
The crack was found during an inspection of the bridge’s east span, California Department of Transportation spokesman Bart Ney told reporters during a press conference Saturday night.
Ney said work will begin immediately to fix the crack.
He also said workers will try to have the problem fixed by the beginning of Tuesday’s work day, but he could not guarantee it.
