Kanye West makes personal apology to Taylor Swift over VMA outburst

After posting a blog of remorse, and breaking down on the Jay Leno show, West has now phoned Swift directly to say sorry.

The call came after Swift’s appearance on the US show The View. While on the programme, the 19-year-old singer said West had not got in touch with her to apologise personally. She said: “He has not personally reached out or anything but if he wanted to say hi, I would."

According to a statement from The View, West called her at the end of filming. A show spokesman said: “After the show he spoke personally to the country music superstar via telephone and has apologised. She has accepted Mr West’s apology. The contents of the phone call are to remain private.”

After the call, Swift told ABC News Radio: “He was very sincere in his apology and I accepted that apology.”

This is the latest development in the controversy surrounding West after his interruption of Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, which left fans fuming. After Swift won Best Female Video, West ruined the singer’s moment when he jumped on to the stage at Radio City Music Hall.

West then told the shocked singer that she didn’t deserve the award, yelling: “Beyonce had one of the best videos of all time”.

Following the angry backlash from Swift fans, West also took to his blog to apologise: “I’M SOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD’VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!”

West later told Jay Leno that he knew he was wrong. “It was rude, period,” he said.
