July 14, 2008 - Immediate Response 2008, an annual, bilateral security cooperation exercise conducted between U.S. and NATO and coalition partners, is being conducted this month in the Republic of Georgia. It is a long-standing joint chiefs of staff-directed exercise focused on interoperability training and theater security cooperation, and is designed to promote understanding and cooperation between military forces of the United States and its allies. A seven-servicemember team from American Forces Network Europe (AFNE) is conducting live-radio programming and radio/TV news coverage for about 1,000 U.S. Soldiers, Marines and National Guard Soldiers-plus troops from the Georgian, Ukrainian, Azerbaijani and Armenian military services-deployed to the training area. AFNE deployed their Tactical Mobile Radio and Television System to the exercise, their third consecutive Immediate Response exercise, using the tactical broadcasting system. PERSIAN GULF (May 14, 2008) The amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4) leads a formation of the coalition ships including the guided missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), the Bahraini Navy frigate RBNS Al Manama (FPBGH 50), the Royal New Zealand Navy frigate HMNZS Te Mana (F 111), and the United Arab Emirates Navy missile boat UAENS Mubarraz (P4401) during Exercise Goalkeeper III in the Persian Gulf. The multi-lateral Goalkeeper III exercise includes participation from Bahrain, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Great Britain and the U.S.

The exercise is designed to train forces in various aspects of maritime security operations as well as command and control functions with the Royal Bahraini naval staff. Joint Effort Key To Success In Deep Freeze

Containerized delivery system bundles are recovered by a ground crew member at the South Pole. The bundles were airdropped by a McChord Air Force Base, Wash., C-17 Globemaster III supporting Operation Deep Freeze. The 13th Air Force-led Operation Deep Freeze is a unique joint and total force mission that has supported the National Science Foundation and U.S. Antarctic Program since 1955. By validating the C-17's capability to complete airdrop missions at the geographical South Pole, Joint Task Force-Support Forces Antarctica demonstrated its ability to provide mid-winter emergency re-supply and flexible support to the National Science Foundation and U.S. Antarctica Program.
